Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration by another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor). Please note The JHD has a strict plagiarism policy: offenders will be blacklisted from the journal and reported to their host institution. If you are in any doubt that your paper contains plagiarised material, please conduct a thorough check before submission.
We understand that papers not submitted on a template will be rejected. Instructions are here.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
Where appropriate we have full ethics committee clearance for the study we are reporting on this occasion. The approval number/reference is added to the manuscript. We further confirm that we have submitted a paper that is consistent with the guidelines on the requirement for ethics committee approval.
The authors have read The JHD copyright notice and undertake to comply with the terms of that notice. Please note: do not submit any copyrighted material. All figures, images and photographs submitted with your manuscript should be free of copyright and/or appropriate approvals obtained before submission. Authors are responsible for obtaining any such approvals.
We are reporting all conflicts of interest, if they exist.
All authors listed in the manuscript are named in this manuscript. The JHD cannot make any changes to the author list post publication.
This JHD levies no charge for publication.
The JHD recommends that authors nominate two (2) independent reviewers who we may approach to review your manuscript. These must not be collaborators, colleagues or relatives. Please enter their names and email addresses as comments to editor at the point of submitting your manuscript.
Submitted papers must fit within one or more the following themes:
1. Accessible healthcare for all
2. Valuing the perspective of those who seek healthcare
3. Sustaining the performance of those involved in caring for people
4. Focusing on small changes that improve outcomes for people in healthcare today
5. Highlighting the contribution of design and architecture in the care of those who seek healthcare
I am not a member of the editorial board or the PPAA and/or I am aware that membership of those groups would disqualify me from involvement in any review or decision to publish this paper.
I have submitted the paper on a JHD template and understand that if I fail to do so that my paper will not be considered for publication

In submitting a research article ('article') published by The JHD, I certify that:
- I am authorised by my co-authors to enter into these arrangements.
- I warrant, on behalf of myself and my co-authors, that: (a) the article is original, has not been formally published in any other peer-reviewed journal, is not under consideration by any other journal, and does not infringe any existing copyright or any other third party rights; (b) I am/we are the sole author(s) of the article and have full authority to enter into this agreement and are not in breach of any other obligation; (c) the article contains nothing that is unlawful, libelous, or which would, if published, constitute a breach of contract or of confidence or of commitment given to secrecy; and (d) I/we have taken due care to ensure the integrity of the article.
To my/our–and currently accepted scientific–knowledge all statements contained in it purporting to be facts are true and any formula or instruction contained in the article will not, if followed accurately, cause any injury, illness or damage to the user.
Ownership of copyright
The Journal of Health Design maintains the highest editorial policies and publishing standards concerning ethics, scientific misconduct, consent and peer review. All articles are published under a Creative Commons licence CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0. By adopting the Creative Commons licence, the JHD is truly open access and committed to the widespread dissemination of information. Expressly, authors will:
- Retain copyright to their articles without restriction; and
- Retain publishing rights, without restriction.
Enforcement of Copyright
The JHD takes the protection of copyright very seriously. If The JHD discovers that you have violated copyright in contravention of the license above, Archetype Health Pty Ltd. will notify the authors immediately and may bring legal proceedings against you seeking monetary damages and an injunction to stop you using those materials. If you become aware of any misuse of copyright, please report this by email to editor@johd.info. If you become aware of any material on the website that you believe infringes your or any other person's copyright, please report this by email to editor@johd.info.
